Cyber Commander owners!
We have released Cyber Commander FW v.50 update. This update will optimize battery life when the unit is asleep, allow future use of FAT32 formatting and larger capacity cards. However, this update will still require a card 2GB or less in capacity formatted to FAT16.
Please follow this link and click on the FIRMWARE tab for instructions and download.

Also, FW v.50 for Einstein E640 has been released. Visit this thread for more information.

I attempted to upgrade my Cyber Commander, which is running v40.

I extracted CC_50.zip, then copied the resulting PCBUFF directory to the root of my 2GB MicroSD card. I put it in the Cyber Commander, installed the batteries, and it booted up the v40 code as always. I tried it again, and same thing; it booted into the v40 code.

Then I tried formatting the SD card in the Cyber Commander. I held the up button long enough for it to format the SD card and then reboot, but that landed me in a reboot loop. It displayed the "Cyber Commander FW Ver 40" message for a second or two, then the display would blank out, then it would repeat.

I removed the SD card, and it booted up OK into the v40 code.

Then I formatted the SD card in Windows with "format O: /FS:FAT". Then I again copied the extracted PCBUFF directory to the root of the SD card, removed the batteries, inserted the SD card into the Cyber Commander, and inserted the batters. That got me back to the reboot loop I described above.

Then I tried formatting the card in the Cyber Commander, and copying the PCBUFF directory over again. When I inserted the SD card into my Windows PC, it had 299 directories, all called "PCBUFF". I fixed those errors with "chkdsk /F", then copied the PCBUFF directory again, but again got into the reboot loop.

How can I escape this cycle and update to the v50 firmware? My batteries are dying too quickly with the v40 code.

Thanks.

I am also having trouble with this update. My screen will not stop flashing white over and over. It has been running maybe 5 minutes and won't stop flashing white. Maybe 10 flashes of white, then a solid white for couple of seconds, a black for a second, and over and over again for minutes. Never does show an version .50 or whatever it should show.

I pulled batteries to get it to stop, reinsert fresh ones, and it still does it. Pulled the card out and now it stays black.

I think it is a brick now. Not cool. :(

I will talk to our engineering staff on Monday about these issues and get back with both of you then.

Can each of you send an email to info@paulcbuff.com and put "attention David" in the subject line.

Please leave your contact information and serial number of the Cyber Commander. This will allow us to determine the vintage of the Cyber Commander, which may help us determine cause and resolution.

InterMurph,

It seems as though there is likely a formatting issue with the card you are using. If you can, I would try a different card, formatted to FAT16 in windows. Make sure the PCBUFF folder is the only folder on the card.

Make sure you are using fresh alkaline batteries when doing this update.

Got it. Unit is in the mail now.

Additionally, Windows 8.1-64 when I was asked to format the 2GB card pops up a "Format with default setting?" which is what I used. I didn't do the Quick Format, but the longer one.

Whatever it was, maybe that is the reason if its default is 32 with Windows 8.1? I don't know, just thinking aloud. Bunch of other formats in there too that I haven't seen before as well.

Is there somewhere we can see a list of bug fixes, updates, new features for both the CC and Einstein ?
