This weekend I was out in the woods at night shooting with my White Lighting UZ1600 running off a generator. I had the 47" octobox attached while I was shooting.

I was using the modeling light (it was dark), and the unit was turned on for about 45-60 minutes before it completely shut off. Now the unit will not turn on at all, and will only send a small charge to the flash bulb when I press the test button.

Although this is an older unit, I just bought it used from someone who had it sitting in thier closet for 10 years, and had only been used a handful of times before this weekend, so I'm sure it was in mint condition before this happened.

Have I ruined this light? I imagine that it may have overheated, or maybe bad power from the generator?

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do before I send the unit in to get looked at. I live in Canada so I'm looking at about $100 just in shipping to send it to the Canadian authorized service center.

Any insights into this situation would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you are just getting a tickle flash, then the likely culprit is the trigger coil. This is something that would have to be sent to a repair facility to correct. Depending on the type of generator used, it may have been or may not have been the cause. The age and sedentary history of the light may also be to blame.
