Umm...Actually I have seen that with lead-acid batteries, perfect one day, dead as a dodo the next !!

That's...uh...just how SLA batteries, ah, are. It's to be expected, and isn't misleading whatsoever. 500-1000 uses, depending on your specifics, and it's done.

It's simply what the chemistry and design dictate. If one of the exotics ever pans out as affordable and reliable, we'll switch to it. We've been with SLA for a long time though, and it doesn't look like it'll change for a while.
