Recently we have been receiving reports of unacceptably short battery standby life on some recent Cyber Commander units. We have traced this issue down and have a firmware solution, downloadable here (V36): V36 is compatible with CCs with any vintage LCD display and extends the battery standby life to approximately 6 month as per the original design.

The issue was caused by a processor change by the vendor in the LCD assembly that caused the display to not go into complete sleep mode when in standby and was discovered and corrected in the past two days.

We don't have exact records of which recent customers received CC units with the new display, but we believe the number is rather small.

Since we realize doing a firmware update may be inconvenient for some user, we will be happy to mail a new Micro SD card formatted to V36 on request, along with installation instructions, to any user that is experiencing this issue.

I personally apologize for inconvenience this issue may have caused customers.

I just upgraded my CC to the latest firmware and after the reboot I have now a low battery warning... Maybe a coincidence, we'll see if with a new set it will last a few months.

I just received my Cyber Commander a couple weeks ago and wondered why the batteries went dead so quickly (replaced twice)! I thought I had made sure no buttons were being pressed in the box I put it in.

Firmware installed, fingers crossed :-). Thanks, Paul.

Has anyone heard/read anything about using rechargeable batteries with any of the transmitters / receivers. I currently use 2700-2900 Nickle Metal Hydride Batteries in all my equipment and have heard it to the "grape vine" that Alkiline batteries better. Who has any input on this?

I believe NiMH cells are only 1.2V vs 1.5V for Alkaline. This can cause under voltage problems in equipment not designed for NiMH.

As Paul said, the voltage is lower with rechargeables, and can cause undervoltage problems with Cyber Commander (processor crash). So we recommend alkaline or lithium in the Cyber Commander. There should not be any problems using rechargables in the recievers.
