I am interested in purchasing the giant softbox 30"x60".. will a Nikon sb900 or two speedlights have sufficient power to light one up?

Assuming you have a means to connect the speedlite to the softbox, you will probably want to use the diffusion dome (SB800's had one, i assume SB900's do, too) for better filling. Whether you have one or five speedlites, you will get good fill. Adding more lights will merely add to the output.

hmmm... 3ft x 5ft softbox... hotshoe flash... good luck. when you can afford it... (not assuming you just cant) get a B400 or B800 and a vagabond and you'll have worlds more light than what you have. after a while... toting 10 speedlights and using 6 to in a single softbox to get the fstop you need that one b400 coulda gotten you will eventually play out. not harm intended man... just sounds like more work than it should be.

Heck, you are better off purchasing a B800. Same price of a Nikon Speedlight.

The practicality of such a set up not withstanding, it can be done. With the diffuser dome, light will "fill" the box. The real concern may be at what aperture/ISO would you need to use.

you might try to get your hands on the giant soft box and see how it operates before making your decision. I LOVE all of my various WL and AB lights, stands and my beauty dish, but the giant soft box has proven to be my least favorite piece of gear. it's cumbersome and not useful on location because it's so cumbersome to assemble (it gets dirty when you have to put it together face down on whatever floor you're working with).

I have seen people do this, and it does work. However, the problem is the bracket needs to hold 2 strobes, and the softbox. That's roughly 800 bucks for 2 flashes, you can get 2-3 strobes for the same price of an AB.

I'm not knocking down your idea, but I feel you should reconsider you decision. Search on youtube for some ideas. I think I have seen some there.

Regards,
Casey
