I love my collapsible large pcb Octa and would like to use it on profoto d1 head. I searched but couldnt find conclusive answer as to which adapter is needed. Any hints greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This should work. We don't make either the adapter or the D1, so no guarantees.

I am also looking for the same solution. I have a PCB medium foldable softbox that I use on my B800 but now I that I also have a Profoto acute head, I would like to use the foldable softbox. If you got it to work, could you please let me know? Also, if you could post pics of the softbox mounted on the Profoto head, that would be great!

I know this is an older thread but I had to recently solve this problem myself. I just purchased a B1 and wanted to use my PCB Folding Octa with it. Most suggested the SP Studio Systems adapter from B&H:

Most 3rd party profoto rings have an issue with not fitting tight enough - especially on the D1/B1 series, however for the price I took a chance. Whenever I received it I immediately dropped it in my octal, pleased to find an exact fit. The 5.5" diameter is perfect. However, like I suspected the rubber ring and clamp were less than snug on my B1. I almost thought about contacting Profoto to see if I could order just the rubber ring and the clamp, but after studying the design I found an easy DIY solution to increasing tension on the clamp. The lever has one set of holes that the arched ring attach to, by drilling a new set of holes that will decrease the diameter of the clamped ring, it should make it fit tighter. (when un-clamped the diameter will actually be larger, so be sure you're putting the new holes in the right place) Simple solution detailed in the pics below. Now everything is working great with no worries of my octa slipping.

The SP Studio Systems adapter is now discontinued. I am about to purchase the Profoto B1 and would love to be able to continue to use my PCB softboxes. Does anyone know of another adapter that would work?

I've run into the same problem with the SP Studios ring being discontinued - I use them in my Bowens Quickrings. Supposedly Photek has ones that work, so you may want to check out this link:

I ended up buying a Fotodiox 5 7/8'' speedring, then grinding it down and filing it to 5 1/2 inches which is what you need to fit the Buffs. The fit on the Fotodiox is pretty good. The rubber hugs the Profoto lights nicely, and the metal end is thick enough that you can control how much you grind/file off and get a good round circle for your softbox. It took 20-30 minutes of grinding, because it'll get hot, plus a while to hand file and smooth it out.

What I ordered was the: Fotodiox Pro Speedring Insert Only for Profoto Speedring for Profoto and Compatible - 5-7/8" Insert for EZ-Pro Softboxes, Beauty Dishes and Standard Softboxes

You could use an angle grinder or a bench grinder. I've seen suggestions elsewhere on the web that you could take it to a machine shop and have them do it. I'd say you could buy the tool on craigslist for as much as you would pay someone to grind it, then you'd have it for later projects...

If anybody wants them, I did a couple extras so I could recoup my costs. Drop me a line and I'll sell you one.
