I have a Creative Light 5' octa that is 5 pounds plus the ring. It seems to really put a stress on the clamps of the Einstein. I'm afraid the clamps are going to give-way and the box will come crashing down possibly breaking the pyrex dome, modeling lamp and flash tube.

If I mount the ring to the stand does the light just attach to the ring and just hang there with no support?

I do not have an official number at the moment, i can check with our engineer on Tuesday.

First, make sure the screws used to hold the dome clips are also within the speedring, otherwise it can appear the fingers are stressed, and may lower the integrity of the mount.

Secondly, there should be no issue supporting the light from the clamps. Even calculating using the 25 pound inches rating of the bees, you would still be fine . I also tried to pry a cage assembly (the speed ring mount used for PLM VII and Retro Reflector) using quite a bit of arm strength and it would not budge.

I have a large Octa (6'7"), that I lovingly call the "OctaMonster". None of the clamps on the White Lightnings or the Einsteins will secure it in the slightest breeze... even butterfly farts will rip it from the clamps.

I fabricated this fixture so the Octa holds the light, rather than the light holding the Octa. I've had it out in 10mph breeze and it worked great. Of course I had over 80 pounds of bags holding the c-stand in place ;)

That's a great setup. I'd buy one if they could be produced at reasonable cost.

My Einsteins hold my 7' octo with absolutely zero issues. The key is that the holding fingers must be fully engaged. Once engaged, there's no way they'll disengage but it is easy to miss having them engaged.

Currently, I don't have any plans to manufacture these. I was just illustrating my partial solution to the "OctaMonster" problem. I design and manufacture aftermarket motorcycle parts. I also make Wizard Brackets ( http://wizardbrackets.com), so my plate is really full right now.

When the motorcycle biz slows down at the end of the summer, I may spend some more time with this. We'll see...
