Wait, so PCB is bringing out a 320Ws light with built-in battery and AC pack by the end of this year!
Wow!
Where do I sign up? (I suppose I'd be joining a pretty long queue... :?)

I've tried to be clear that there is no specific product or specific date. Just some ideas about what we are considering . . . working on. Too early for a lot of speculation - ideas change, engineering is a very long process to do right.

Mr. Buff:
Of course, I am just jumping on the bandwagon in jest. Glad to know such a product is under consideration and looking forward to it. For the moment, there are plenty to choose from in your store :)

Looks like Profoto came out with the B2 and it's almost exactly what I suggested above.

There are some drawbacks to the B2 from what I can see in their promo videos:

1) Clunky carrying bag.

2) Correct me if I'm wrong but there doesn't seem to be a sync port which means you are forced to use their triggers instead of Pocketwizards or chinese triggers. There is something labelled "sync" but it looks like a button.

3) LED light had only one power setting. No way to turn it down.

4) This is a pipedream wish but...It would be nice if your design had an optional mount to mount directly to the hotshoe and receive TTL information and pass the TTL signal directly to the pack. Of cource it would mean that the head would have a bit of electronics to relay the TTL signal to the pack. This would be much more useful than how the B2 had to be mounted to a $300 Boomerang adapter and triggered with the TTL remote on the hotshoe. It seems clunky and kind of defeats the purpose of it being a lightweight mobile system.

Anyway, it's not like my opinion really mattters but these are some things to consider when finalizing the design of the "Phoenix" ;)

PS: The way Profoto is going, I wouldn't be surprised if the B3 will be a speedlight design.

Just checked my email to find that Elinchrom answered Profoto's challenge with a new Quadra!

Take that Profoto!

Looks like pack and head systems aren't going away anytime soon. :)

Since my last post 1.5 years ago, I totally changed my mind. From wanting a smaller, less powerful, Einstein with external batteries, I now would love a 300ws mini Einstein with batteries in flash head, provided it weighs under 3.5 lbs, if that is even possible.

External batteries are pain to carry and take extra time to set up. Batteries in the flash head are a real convenience.

I know the Paul C Buff CO. is working to bring to the market new products. I hope it will be a smaller, lighter version of the current Einstein light and the battery will be included in the flash head.

The new Flashpoint 600 sounds great. But I need 3 of them for weddings and the combined weight is too heavy for me to carry. Also 6.5 lbs on a ten foot lightstand, between a crowd, makes me nervous. That is why I sold my Einstein lights, which I absolutely loved, and brought Flashpoint Streaklight instead. I just hate the external battery packs and cables.

300ws is totally enough power for me. I also don't use TTL for off camera flash. A mini, lightweight Einstein with batteries in the flash head would be a dream come true for me. And I believe for a lot of other people as well.

Wow, the new Digibees look awesome! I guess these are the new "mini Einsteins". I think a lot of people will be very excited.

I'm getting tempted by these new flashes although I did want a battery in the flash head. But it would likely add an additional pound. An external battery does balance the weight better than adding an additional pound to the light.

Now they need to come out with a battery pack smaller than the mini Vagabonds and you have a killer combo.

Now can we see the Einsteins "graduate" to a WL style body with 640 & 1320 (2 models) output? Some of us need f8 & fight the sun on location...
