We are happy to introduce our new 60 inch Foldable Octabox with optional grid! The new FOB60 is 60" across and features a lightweight shell and white interior for exceptional softness. $199.95 http://www.paulcbuff.com/fob60.php

Like our other softbox grids, the G60 narrows the light beam down to 40 degrees. $64.95 http://www.paulcbuff.com/obgrids.php

The new SBA Soft Box Adapter allows for mounting your softbox to the stand, reducing the stress on the front face plate. $69.95 http://www.paulcbuff.com/sba.php

The quote below does not seem quite right. The flash attaches to the new mount, not the soft box, doesn't it?

SBA adapter allows you to mount your foldable softbox directly to a heavy duty light stand, then attach your flash unit to the softbox itself.

No, the Balcar interface is still on the softbox. This bracket simply supports the speedring.

That new softbox mount is an amazing idea !!!! I've always wanted something that takes the weight of the softbox from the flash, it seemed like such a flawed design that nobody had fixed. Enter in PCB :)

It is a little expensive though, i've got 11 units and it would be like $700 to kit them all out :(

Side by side, how does the new 60" soft box compare in output, spread, and light character to the 64" soft silver PLM with a diffuser attached ?

Thank you

Rex

At the moment, we don't have a direct comparison. It will be a bit softer as it is a white interior, and a tad larger face. You will not have the light in the catch lights.

Beam spread will be similar (ungridded) as anything with a flat white face will be in the 160 degree realm. PLM may be a tad wider, the softbox a tad narrower from the recessed face, but not gobs different.

Output I project to be within a stop of each other, with the PLM being higher. We will let you know some concrete numbers when we can get that together.

I'm looking at buying the new Mount for my 47" octo. I want to take the load off my Einstein because sometimes, the Octo tilts it forward a bit.

Will this mount make it more stable, less prone to tilt by itself?

Does it reduce the angle I can tilt my octo forward? I would assume so since it is bring the octo closer to the stand. Is it a really noticeable difference though?

Thanks

When the mount is upright, the box is closer to the stand. With the height and shape of the mounting "ears", the box swings out, away from the stand. If there is any difference, it is minor.

Also, if needed, you can still mount the box straight to the light, just spin the stand adapter out of the way.
