So, it's pretty well understood that the Modeling lamps should generally not be used when the Vagabond Mini is used to power a strobe. With the new LED lamp on the Digibee, does this still apply?

This is not a simple yes or no answer. Model lamps were not recommended for use as they generally exceed the load allowed by the Vagabond Mini, and will deplete the battery at a very fast rate. Lower power model lamps are available, but are not generally effective/as useful.

With the DigiBee, the 75W actual draw is well within the limits of the VML's capability, and is extremely bright. If the brightness was reduced to that of a standard 150W model lamp, the actual power draw would be even less, providing enough light to be useful while not draining the battery terribly fast, but it is still a continuous load, which will reduce the number of shots per charge.

So, yes, the model lamp can be used, but still at a cost.
