I'm starting a home studio for portraits/glamour/fashion, still life, generally shooting stuff in a studio. I have searched around the web to try and understand why one would choose an Einstein, White Lightening, Alien Bee, Digital Bee....and can't really find anything. Where can I learn this?

I only know from my research I want a light from Paul C. Buff.

Thanks
Jim

I would have a default answer as Einstein, unless there is an overriding reason as to why not. A 640Ws light, an 8 stop power range, best color consistency and fast flash durations are its major advantages, as well as how well it works with Cyber Commander (any of our lights CAN work, but Einstein and DigiBee work better)

I would second suggest the DigiBee 800 as a lower cost flash or one with a really bright LED model lamp.

If the power of the B1600 was needed at a lower price point, then it could be a viable choice.

The X series has a 5 year warranty (as opposed to 2 years on the other lights) and is available in the 3200 (1280Ws) power level, if needed. The 1600 and 3200 also have 1/4 power switches, so the power range is pretty broad.
