With heavy modifiers like a 7ft octa, I'm wondering if it would be better to attach the strobe+modifier by the speedring instead of the strobe foot.

Do you know where to buy speedring for octa that would have a proper foot attachment point?

With the strength of the Einstein fingers, i would not be surprised if they held the box. However, less stress would be placed on them (as well as the mount, which could sag, if the box was heavy or deep enough) if the speedring supported the light. I do not know of any specific speedrings to use, but check B&H.

I hang my 7' octobox (Photoflex) & 52x72 Nova cinemadome from my B1600 antenae all the time...

I haven't had any problems...

My octa is a 2m Visico.

I've found the Photoflex SC-B9005PBR speedring that has a threaded hole for holding it. That's maybe the solution.

Photoflex have the threaded hole for just this type of purpose. You can purchase the swivel mount from them which will then attach the speedring to a stand leaving the light supporting only it's own weight.
