Being somewhat conservative about changing my workflow (especially as I do most of my work on location), as I waited for my PLM to come in, I was pretty firmly convinced that I'd set the speedring to one side and use the conventional mounting rod. Why fix something that isn't broken?

However, after a bit of operational testing, it seems clear to me that the speedring is the way to go, even on location. It's bulkier in transit than the rod, of course, but it still seems to work better and more quickly.

Yeah, it took a few tries to get the hang of it (really didn't like the text-heavy instructions, wish there had been a drawing naming the parts). But after a few tries, they set up really quickly with the speedring.
