If i have the battery tray inserted completely into the unit it refuses to fire. If i pull it out about 1/8" or so it works just fine... which i guess works but its very frustrating when you're in the middle of a shoot and out of no where you flash stops firing because the battery tray is all the way in as it should be... is this a known issue?

You may want to peek into the battery compartment of the remote and locate in the back the metal "diving board". Ensure that contact is parallel with the battery compartment edges and not quite, but almost laying against the back wall (i.e. not folded or curved so that it goes to the side of the battery, but stays in the back).

If it is not, you can try to straighten it. If this is not the problem or you cannot correct it if it is, contact customer service for warranty service (if applicable).
