Hi all,

I'm trying to set up my einsteins with the CC. I do not see Einstein specified on the CC spec lights set up menu. I have updated the firmware on the Einsteins and the CC.
I'm kinda surprised the manual doesn't show **any** Einstein references / examples.

It turns out that Einsteins are self-defining, so they'll show up only after being discovered by the CC.

Before doing anything, set your desired frequency on the CC. If you plan to trigger lights with a CST, be sure it's set to the same frequency.

1) Power up the Einstein(s)
2) Use the back panel on the Einstein(s) to set the frequency to match the frequency you set on the CC
3) Use the back panel on the Einstein(s) to assign a unique channel to each light
4) If you're using CSR's and/or CSRB's to trigger other lights, power them up, and ensure they're set to the correct frequency. They also need unique channel assignments.
5) Toggle the right joystick on the CC until "Open Memory" is displayed
6) Select that option by clicking with the right joystick
7)Toggle the left joystick until "Studio" is displayed in the lower-left corner of the CC (Note: "Open All From Studio" should also be displayed along the top of the screen)
8) Select the "Open All From Studio" option by clicking with the right joystick

At this point the Einsteins will be discovered by the CC, and you'll be able to configure them as you like. Be aware that you will need to manually define non-Einstein lights if they're being triggered by CSR/CSRB's.

Unlike lights using CSR/B+, you can do all the settings (power level, model power and status, recycle indicator, etc on the Einstein back panel first, then do Open From Studio on CC and all the Einstein settings will be captured by CC.

If you are mixing Einsteins and non Einsteins, instead of doing "Open All From Studio" you can open Einstein channels individually. This will keep you from having to redo any settings you may already have for the non-Einsteins.

Make sure everything is on the same Frequency and that each light is on a unique Channel. If you have more than one light of a specific Channel you will get failures, particularly with Open Studio.

I received my three Einstein units yesterday, and I'm very thankful to have them. I must, however, admit to total befuddlement with the CyberCommander unit, which was shipped to me in April. I have unpackaged only one light; I want to understand it before unboxing the other two.

Yes, the CC triggers this one light. But, in following the written instructions to meter a single light, I do not understand my results. I've set the CC for channel 1 to: blue power bar is set to f5.6, ISO to 100, and shutter to 1/250. When I stand at the subject and point the dome toward the camera and press the Meter button (right joystick) to take a reading, the flash fires. On the screen, the little yellow marker is at f/64, and the large yellow aperture at the top of the screen shows "<f1.0". I do not understand this result. The dome is not being blocked in any way. CC serial number is 0021xx, so I'm assuming v29 firmware is resident.

Advice would be appreciated.

OK, there are several layers of information on the screen. The row of apertures on the left do not correspond with the blue bar. They correspond to the yellow dashes. The blue bar corresponds to the EU numbers on the right (or just relative power, if you prefer). Not knowing which modifier you are using or what distance you are metering at, I cannot say that the f/64 reading is incorrect, though it does sound high.

First, make sure the light is responding to output adjustments by metering at several different levels from the same place. Also, be sure to allow the light to fully recycle or dump. If you go from full power to minimum power, then immediately meter, the reading will be quite high, as the light has not dumped the excess power. It may take multiple presses of the test button to manuall dump the light (about 15 from full to minimum).

If the light is adjusting, double check the CAL setting in the CC. This is found SETUP>FLASHMETER and is listed in the upper right corner. If it is not set to 0.0, then set it to that. (of course if you want to dial an offset in to match another meter, you may, but it would be rare to offset more than 1f on any meter, and should not be more than 1 or 2 tenths on CC).
