The new Octobox, which has the speedring attached, can it be used with non AB lights?

Is the speedring attached permanently or can the poles be removed from it so I can use the octobox on a prophoto speed ring, or speedotron speedring etc.

Thanks
Al

All of our softboxes have the speedring permanently attached. There is an inner adapter ring that can be removed and replaced with one that fits other lights. Not all lights will have an adapter available, and teh adapters may be hard to find. The adapters are 5.5" instead of 6". Porter's camera carries them, but last i checked, they were out of stock on many of them.

To use PCB foldable softboxes and octis with other lights it necessary to replace the adapter ring that fits into the speedring.
This URL http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/220940-REG/Red_Wing_RD6210_Speed_Ring_for_Calumet.html if for the adapter to Bowens S type lights. They also make adapters for most other lights including Elinchrom.

It takes about 2 minutes to loosen the screws holding the adapter and swapping one for the other.

Take some care when ordering, there are two different outer diameters for the adapters, make sure you get the proper one.

If this works, good find. How does one know the diameter, as I do not see it on the website. Would you have to research that on teh manufacturers site?

My recollection is that the adapter in the PCB foldable softboxes is the same size as most others. There are some off brand softboxes that have a larger diameter adapter.
The adapters I bought from B&H were from Red Wing and they fit without a problem.

Our standard soft boxes use a speedring that has a 6" diameter inner ring. This seems to be the most common ring size. However, our foldable boxes have a 5.5" inner ring size. The only inner ring I am aware of that is known to be 5.5" is available from porter's, and designed for foldable boxes. This does not mean that i am refuting the Red-Wing rings are the wrong size.

I just received a couple of the Red Wing RD6210 adaptors, and I can confirm that they fit the speedrings in the folding softboxes; a simple change. Still waiting on the Interfit bracket, but I assume that's as straightforward as it looks.

Only problem is... now I'm not really sure why I need this. Mounting speedlites in stripboxes would be useful on location, but my strips are standard-style. With the 24x36 FSB's and larger... well, if I have room to set up a softbox, I usually have room for studio strobes, too.

Reminder: the Bowens mounts only have room for one strobe head.
