I don't have first hand experience with the LP120, however, i would try turning the optical slave off first. Some flashes, the optical slave kills the other connections, some do not. But by leaving it on, it can be errantly triggered.
for trouble shooting, do the following in the order written. Once the light fails to fire, then we can narrow our trouble shooting to a specific component/conection.
Start with the flash on. Make sure it fires from the test button. Plug the sync cord in, If using the PC cord, the light will likely not flash (though it may, no big deal). If using the 1/8" connections, then the light should flash when it is plugged in. Then plug the cord into the reciever, the light should fire regardless of the style of cord. Now turn on the reciever, if it is not already on, the LED should blink green indicating it has power. Press the test button on the reciever to test fire. The flash should fire, and the LED on the reciever should blink red one time. Moving to the transmitter, ensure the frequency dials match, using the deeper cut in the slot matches on both pieces. Press the test button on the transmitter (if you changed frequency on either, press the test button 3 times to resync the channels). The transmitter and reciever LED's should blink red once, and the flash should fire. Place the transmitter in the hotshoe of the camera, and take a photo, keeping an eye on the transmitter. Again, the transmitter and reciever should each blink red once, and the light should fire.
Also, what camera do you have? Some cameras (I know some Canons) will not fire via the hotshoe in live view mode. Other cameras (Pentax) will not fire the hot shoe above the sync speed.
