Just checked mine--red light comes on. So, I'd suggest a battery change out, and be sure the + side of the battery is "down in the drawer" and the - side is up facing out of the drawer.
CSTs tend to act completely normal, and then suddenly misbehave when the battery charge drops below some threshold.
I ordered a batch of batteries on amazon a while back--you can get 10-20 of them for a pretty good price, much better per battery than buying 1 or 2 at at time locally. Keep the rest in the fridge, always carry an extra battery with your gear. That's what I started doing when my CST battery went belly up on me the first time. No more "debugging" now, just swap in a fresh battery and go.
