5D Mark II's can vary quite a bit from what I've heard/read. If you've seen any of the Zack Arias workshops on creativeLIVE he mentions his max sync speed with his 5D Mark II is also 1/160th. Also, he shoots with AlienBees. :)

While that is true, isn't Zack usually using Pocket Wizards rather than a synch cord? I agree that the synch speed with remote delay is usually 1/160 but the OP asked about firing from a cord and in that config you can get 1/200.

I do 1/125 with my PW's. When I got the 5D2, I played with B800's and saw that 1/125 worked for me.

According to the 5DII manual, page 104, it says to set the speed to between 1/60 to 1/30 for large studio flash units. But for non-Canon compact flash units at 1/200 and slower.

I have 5DIIs and Einsteins.
With Pocket Wizard ControlTL I can get 1/250 without a shutter curtain shadow.
With Cyber Sync I routinely shoot at 1/200 without a shadow. That's with the Einsteins set to anything from 2.5Ws up to full power.
