Got a card at Walgreen's today -- they seem to be the only one of the drug chains that have these 2 gig micro SD cards.

However, I needed the procedure in your Dec. 30 post to accomplish the upgrade. The recommended method just resulted in the fan cycling up and down with nothing on the screen.

Hi,

Right now, I'm torn between AB800's and Einstein's.

Is it possible for Tech Support to confirm a couple of brands of compatible 2 gigs card.

They are getting really hard to find, and it would be weird for me to invest in some Einstein's but not be able to upgrade them (firmware) because I can't find some compatibles Micro SD cards...

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Pierre

Really, any major name brand will be as likely to work as any other. We have seen one lot of one brand have issues that were not experienced from the previous lot. That being said, not only is it rare for an issue to arise from a quality card prepared properly, if you do have issues, we have means of working around them or working with you to get it resolved.

Speaking not only as tech support, but a user of both Bees and Einstein, any small risk of firmware update failure is not a reason to forego the lights. If the Einsteins are what you need/want, there will not be a firmware update to Alien Bees to make them an Einstein (or any firmware update for that matter). Einstein will always be as good as when it was purchased (as far as firmware), and can only get better.

E640 firmware update assistance. I followed the update instructions, but the fan cycles on and off, and the unit will not power on. The micro sd is formatted to fat16. Is there something I missed? Thanks for your assistance.

Yes, we are aware, and we are working on it. In the mean time, I have found drug stores like Walgreens often carry 2GB cards.

So do Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/2GB-Sandisk-Micro ... pd_cp_pc_1) and Tiger Direct: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=3610

Can I take the card out of my Cyber Commander and add the new firmware folder to it to update the Einstein, then return the card to the Cyber Commander?

Yes, as long as you format the card before reinstalling into the CyberCommander.

Also, you can save the PCBUFF folder to your computer, then reload to the card to maintain any saved set ups.

I'm on a Mac, which apparently makes formatting a problem.

Can I rename the old Cyber Commander PCBUFF folder "~PCBUFF" before I put it in the Einstein with the new firmware folder? Then after uploading the firmware, delete the firmware folder and then rename the ~PCBUFF folder back to the original Cyber Commander PCBUFF name? Or do I really have to re-format the card to do this?
Thanks. . .

Ok, yeah, don't format. However, you can delete or save the CC "PCBUFF", then put the Einstein "PCBUFF" on the card to update the lights as described, then delete the card. You can then replace the CC "PCBUFF" to the card, or install it empty.

If you install it empty, you can go into SETUP>ADVANCE CONFIGURATION>SD UTILITIES and format the card in this option (it is not a full format, but it will work for this instance).
