I too have a CC unit that I put the batteries that came with the unit in on Tuesday, played with the new system figured out how to dial up and down the new Einsteins. Worked with them for half a day on Thursday (weather grayed out our windows so had to postpone) Friday morning at 7:30am the batteries were dead and my assistant was laughing his head off at me and my new time saver  - back to the pocket wizards

kick myself for not having back up AAAs on location

I didn't change the screen brightness nor the time setting and the unit resides in it's well protected slot in the cameras case

My other question is the manual keeps referring to an included mini SD card - I know one didn't come with the system and am wondering if this is a new version where the internal memory is adequate or if I need to purchase a separate mini SD card?

Having played with it to learn, and then having used them for a half day (particularly if the screen was on a lot), i would not be concerned over one set of dead batteries, as the screen on is taxing on the batteries. If, however, the batteries die without the screen being on, then there is a reason to be concerned.

All Cyber Commanders ship with a microSD card installed on the left hand edge of the unit.

Well, it looks like a call to the support staff is in order.

Yesterday, I replaced the batteries once again with a set of brand new Duracell's. I sat the Cyber Commander on the table and did not touch it--other than to test fire the strobes on a few occasions.

This evening, I went to test the strobes and the Cyber Commander's display warned me of low battery power. This is the third time I replaced the batteries over the past week--and I haven't even taken it out on a shoot yet!

Ok I can buy that, however after Friday's shoot (a lite one) Saturday morning the batteries are dead again, granted I can just get some recyclable batteries and not worry about always replacing batteries after every shoot although that seems like either I'm doing something wrong (the unit doing extra features I don't need it to be doing) or I need to test the unit to get this squared away. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. thanks jeff

p.s. after thinking about it, the unit was only used for one view on friday - the first portion of the day was using pocket wizards until I was able to take a break and get some replacement batteries for one afternoon view - so in that retrospective I am doubting that this can be seen as normal battery performance (the replacement batteries were Energizer AAAs bought fresh from the store)

Good news!

As of this afternoon there is a firm ware update that addresses this very issue!

The bad news is that I have to buy a micro SD card and reader to install the upgrade. Not a big issue but another trip to the computer store.

I am also very impressed with the level of support from the company. I've had problems but they've certainly taken care of them.

...a suggestion to PaulC. Bluff Inc. For the price of a micro SD card and adapter (for standard card readers), why not include one with the original equipment? Firmware upgrades are a given and a micro SD card and adapter is cheap.

There is an update available as mentioned, see the first post on the board. Sorry I did not respond earlier to this post, as we were working on the fix.

The Cyber Commander does ship with an SD card installed. As Paul said in the linked forum, we can send you the firmware preinstalled on a card, if needed.
