This thread is in regard to the Vagabond II, which is in the orange bag. It sounds like you have the Vagabond Mini Lithium. The two have two different charging requirements. Please follow the directions included in the manual of the device you have.

It does have a clamp that can be used to mount it to a light stand. This would keep it of anything flammable. However, normal operation would not likely cause anything to combust by simply resting on it.

You can use your Vagabond to recharge one battery and invest in a Battery Tender or similar smart charger that only puts a half amp maximum (very precisely) into the battery during recharging to recharge the other at the same time. That will get you back in business in the minimum time.

Realistically both batteries probably will need to be replaced together in a slightly longer time versus use one battery, kill it, get another battery, use it until it is dead too. The benefit of using two batteries is the convienence of not looking like an idiot during your paid shoot when one or all of your lights stop working and you have to troubleshoot to see if the tube burned out or if the battery ran out. Nobody needs that hassle.

I appologize if it seems I am lecturing, but I have dealt with SLA, lithium and most other battery techology issues for the past 5 years or so dealing with custom one-off and/or limited run led and hid led flashlights. Mr. Buff has done a remarkable job with these Vagabonds mixing cost versus performance. I can tell you that using any other battery system other than what he has would have raised costs really fast and honestly, not made the user's life any better.

It is quite clear to me that you have a vast knowledge about batteries which is really appreciable. But I want to highlight the point of your apologizing. Really you are brave person !

Hello there,

Has anyone used/tried the Vagabond Mini with Hensel Expert 500 Pro lights?? Do they work together??
And, does the USB port on the Vagabond Mini charge an smart phone???

Many thanks, I will appreciate your answers!

Hensel Integra 500's have tested OK on the 120V version of the VML. I would imagine the Experts will as well, though you may be limited to one light per pack.

As for the USB output, it is .5A, which was enough to charge cell phones. However, about the same time as the VML release, the phones started requiring 1A or more. It is unlikely the USB will charge a semi-current smart phone. Of course you can still use a wall wart in the AC outlet.

Would it be possible to use this:

http://store.starkpower.com/12V-20AhSta ... _p_23.html

as a replacement for the batteries in my (x2) vagabond 2s? I know i'll have to watch the charge to prevent the vagabond switching to trickle. I know your "job" is to get me to switch to the VML but...

That is a good question. I am going to pass this through our Engineers. I do know a Vagabond system, when used with studio flash, taxes a battery in a unique way. So the battery needs to be able to supply the correct amount of power.

However, the price of each of those is not far from the price of a VML.

It would also change restriction status when travelling.

Ok, it seems the Vagabond II inverter can draw up to 60ADC when powered on and 40Adc when recycling. The battery linked to maxes at 30ADC. Therefore, it is not recommended for use.

Dang, sent the wrong link. Sorry.

http://store.starkpower.com/12V-50AhSta ... _p_42.html

I would love to build a 50ah lithium vagabond in a pelican case... It would be for regional (<7hr car) travel as I rent or get a grip truck when I'm on the coasts. Specs say max 80a draw? However, id have to worry about the V2 doing something heinous to my expensive battery and at that cost i could probably get a VLX + spare. Dare to dream right?

Pros:
"Safety" orange not "bag of candy" sea foam/blurple
640wh ~ 4x VLX + spares

Cons:
V2 wants to destroy the Li batt due to being built for SLAs. (could this be turned off?)

Am I missing anything?

My vega mini will not stay on with the fuse in. I have replaced the fuse to no avail.
If I take the fuse out it powers on fine.
Any help?

Should work fine. V2 draws 60A max at 12V and shouldn't care if it's LiFePO4 or SLA, as long as it can deliver at least 12V/60A.

No need for Purple - Turquoise VLX by the way. We are shipping Cool Grey VLX daily. See:
https://www.youtube.com/user/paulcbuff for performance, etc. Well worth watching.
