| Post subject: | Einstein Receiver "Cracked" By Design? |
*phew* After a loooong wait for my Einsteins (I've been in Japan and just got home for the holidays), I've been giddily using my Einsteins around the house every chance I get. Among a whole slew of things I purchased were three Einsteins, a CC, a CST, and a plug-in receiver for each Einstein. From the moment I opened the first receiver box, I noticed that from the top of the antenna down to its base it was cracked. Cracked is probably the wrong word though. What I mean is that the two halves of the plastic housing were separated most at the top (about half a millimeter) and tapered toward being fully together toward the bottom of the antenna. My first reaction was "Ah great, here's something I'll need to send back probably". Then I opened the second box. Same deal. When I opened the third box, the housing was fully shut, as you'd expect. I didn't quite know how much to worry over them, expect I started noticing that one of the receivers wasn't always firing and wasn't always responding to the CC or even CST at very close ranges like 8 feet. Oddly enough, it was the fully closed receiver that was having issues. I tested it on different lights and with different things like setting changes from CC, firing from CC, firing from CST, and testing from CST. In all cases, it was just the lights associated with that specific receiver that failed to fire/change settings/turn on-off. Now that I've completely narrowed the fault down to that receiver (and I've already emailed customer service about getting it replaced), it makes me wonder about the intended design. I was initially worried about the tops being split open a bit on the other two receivers, but should I not be? Is that in fact why they have better range? I'm sure having antennas split open for the sake of better signal isn't standard or preferred practice, but they work. If my options after sending them back are to get more that are also split open or to get more that are shut but don't respond often like my current one, than my best option just seems like holding on to the other two that are functioning now. Still, the slightly split antenna gives me pause. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

The plastic part that is "split" is only the housing. The actual antenna is part of a circuit board inside. The condition of the housing is irrelevant to the performance of the module. The fact your reciever module with a "closed" antenna is performing less than desirably is pure coincidence. Customer service can get that corrected for you. Also, to qualify "split", the seams are spread a little further at the top of the antenna, however, there should not be any open gap into the reciever module. |
