Is there any truth in this regard with the lithium technology? http://www.innovatronix.com/tronixmanua ... d_Comp.pdf Will be using V Lithiums and is quite bothered by these... Thanks. |

The travel part is true. DoT regulations are different for Li batteries. Batteries installed in your device can be checked. Spares must be carried on. The fact SLA's are "airline safe" does not mean hassle free, either. Check your local regulatory agency for details for your locale. The fact they are trying to imply that Li batteries are not safe to travel with makes me question the memo as a whole. If Li batteries could not be made safely and affordably, your laptop and camera would run on SLA. We have tested the batteries for both safety and longevity, and stand behind the claims of both. While there are little bits of truth to what they are saying I would call that memo misleading at best. It appears, to me anyway, to be an attempt to justify why they haven't kept pace with new technology. Lithium-based batteries are a great advancement over lead acid chemistry and like TS said they are currently used in many, many, many applications including consumer electronics, power tools and electric vehicles. When is the last time you heard of a lithium battery exploding? |

Thanks. I believe that's why this was posted . . . to deter you from buying VML. Pure scare tactics. Hey, we created the pure sine inverter concept and these guys copied us. Obviously they haven't caught up. VML batteries are not "cheap lithiums" . . . they are the highest quality made . . . by anybody. As for number of charge/recharge cycles, VML batteries outperform SLAs in this regard . . . typically 500 cycles VS about 200-300 for most SLA systems. And they don't sulfate and become useless like SLAs, to say nothing of the size/weight/power equation. Out of 3000+ delivered to date only one customer had a battery overheat (during charging) . . . but it wasn't a battery or charger fault, he was using it on a cruise ship and let the battery get filled with seawater . . . a no no for lithium batteries. Same applies to your laptop and iPhone and camera . . . all lithium batteries similar to VML structure. |
