Hi, I remember this has been covered before but I can't recall where/when... My ABs still have their original 100w modeling lights in service. What type bulb and how many watts can I safely install for the 400 and 800 lights? I seem to recall Sylvania 150w. If I am correct is this the max recommended power? I do understand more watts means more heat for modifiers to deal with. I wonder if the the 'old' recommendations hold true for the new more thicker/durable PCBuff soft boxes. I have some daylight (blue coated) corrected photofloods around but not sure what the wattages are. I am assuming that I do not need daylight corrected photoflood bulbs for the ABs as I am not using the bulbs for the exposure. thanx, Paul |

No need for daylight bulbs, but 150W is max. This is not for the safety of the softboxes, but for the lights. For WYSIWYG, you would want a 150W in the B800 and 75-100W in the B400. |

Any non-compact flourescent edison based buld should work. We carry the 150W here: http://www.alienbees.com/tubes.html (150W is the part number). |
