Any feedback out there on how to travel with the PLM light? ~I have the large 86 inch plm. ~I've just put it together and I enjoy the light BUT ... ~If i want to take this light on location with me: am I going through the entire process of taking it apart and then packing it and then putting it all together again when I arrive at a location? ~What is the real world use for location shooting? I will admit that I just put it together today and used it and now I'm thinking I have to take it completely apart and then put it together again on location and take it apart when I leave the location. Right? OR... does it collapse nicely and pack in the box nicely? Real world experience to enlighten me. Thanks. |

Two suggestions: 1)If your unit did not come with a slipcover, contact customer service and get one. 2)Get a nut from Home Depot and attach the bolt to the speedring so all you need to do is unscrew the shaft, no tools needed. Not sure why Paul doesn't supply one, but I paid less than a buck for 4 so it's no big deal. I wish the speedrings would pack smaller but there's not much that can be done about that. Fred |

Thank you so much ... I just went up to my new studio and it was easy. The obvious is sometimes a mystery. And, I discovered that I do not have a "slipcover" for my PLM so will contact support to see if they can send one. thanks! |

Everyone will have thier own tricks which work for them. For me, I find it easier to keep teh position shaft on mine attached to the speedring. Open the reflector, insert the position shaft, tighten thumbscrew. When I am done, loosen thumbscrew, remove shaft/ring, collapse reflector. I then reinsert the shaft into the slider as far as it goes, then retighten the thumbscrew. Yes, the speedring sticks out of the slip cover, but it is held in place and everything stays together. |

TS, I appreciate the alternative and after reading the post several times figured it out. The idea of keeping pieces together does appeal to me. I did email support and asked that a slipcover be sent to me as a result of learning that from the prior poster. I ordered some of these picese of equipment about a year ago and just taking them out of the box now (embarrassed to say that but it's my reality ... my studio is finally ready for "the light" and I'm putting it all together as we talk). Thanks for the help!!! |

I never realized you could tighten the thumbscrew enough to hold the assembled speedring in place with the PLM closed - what a great way to keep it all together! |
