Probably dumb questions, but couldn't find the answer in the manual:

- when you press the test button, does it have to fire a flash to get a flash meter reading? With a regular light meter, you can press the measure button and it'll measure the pop that follows even if it happens a few seconds later
- is there any way to change the shutter to 1/180 on the display? I'm not sure it even matters w/ studio lights because the CC doesn't measure ambient, but it's weird having the choices be a multiple of 1/125.

Bought a used CC because I got tired of waiting for Radiopopper to release JrX Einstein support...I don't think the UI is that confusing, though I do sometimes push left instead of up/down (I figured out most things w/o looking at the manual). Now I have to order a few CSXCVs that I should have ordered w/ my Einsteins long ago :roll:

If it ever gets redesigned, it might be good to use different colors for the left/right joysticks to match the menus. And the tip of the antenna separated but people mentioned this already...needs glue. Most obvious wear item is the screen...it looks pretty badly scuffed up and there are black spots underneath (noticed the black spots when flashing firmware 40 onto it when it blinks all white on startup)...probably needs a screen protector or something to keep dirt from getting underneath it.

Yes, the meter reading only happens when the meter button is pressed.


At this time only full stop shutter speeds are available in ISO and Shutter Speed. Cyber Commander reads any light it gets at the time of the meter reading, including ambient. Please see the sticky regarding this. However, in studio, changes in typical shutter speeds settings do not alter the exposure (really slow shutter speeds or speeds above x-sync will affect the image, however). 1/125 and multiples there of are full stop increments as found in cameras.


If aesthetics are your only concern, I would not advise glue, as this would not facilitate repairs, if necessary.

The real question is whether I can test it as a light meter w/o having any cybersync receivers. You can do this w/ a real light meter...

It will meter the ambient light with no recievers. If a flash happens to wander in during the reading, then it will add that to the meter reading. The Cyber Commander will not wait for a flash. As it is part of a system, it was designed to be used with other components of the system. It was not designed to replace an L358, though it may anyway with many users.
