Is there a trick to changing the modeling light? I tried pulling but all I did was break the bulb.
So is there a release or something?

Push in, turn 1/4 turn counter clockwise, and let it come straight out. Just to be clear this is not the doughnut shaped glass tube, but is the bulb in the center?

Its also a good idea to wear gloves or use a paper towel to keep the oils from you hands off of the lamp.

Good call. I should have included that in my instructions.
