Post subject:  Cyber Commander LCD screen cracked

Hi there,

For reasons I do not understand, recently the LCD screen on a Cyber Commander cracked whilst traveling. The commander unit was stored in a protective case and in the original retail box, so physical damage was an impossibility. It was in perfect working order prior to travel yet afterwards the LCD screen was cracked, and the unit was not used. The only thing I can think of, is the fact that the weather changed from warm to cold during the travel, possible causing the crystals in he LCD to crack. I can think of no other reasons for the damage.

The commander unit had only been used on one occasion prior to travel, but unfortunately the warranty expired recently. I am unsure whether the LCD can be replaced or I have no choice but to buy a new unit.

Has anyone else had any similar experience, or have an explanation to how it could have happen?

Cheers,

Malf

It can be replaced, and there is a 2 year warranty. If you are in the US, sending to us will will certainly be the best route. If you are outside the US, contact the dealer from whom it was ordered to see what your best course of action will be. I dont know at this moment what thier repair costs are.

Mine cracked also. Of course it was because I dropped it.

Many thanks for your reply. I have just emailed the Repair team enquiring about repairing the unit as it ran out or warranty early this year. I am located in Australia where they do not carry out repairs. Instead I was offered a $5 discount on a replacement unit that is already $100 more than the purchase price in the US. So I am looking at $272 to buy another unit but believe I could cover postage and repair costs for much less than that. Maybe it is just a matter of buying the LCD screen and replacing it myself. I do wonder how difficult it is.

All Paul C Buff product is damn expensive here. For example I can buy a set of four grids in the US for less than the price of one in Australia. I'm not sure how this encourages locals to invest in more product. I have already decided I will not be purchasing a replacement unit, and will consider other alternatives.

^ to those above: are your actual LCD screens cracked? or is it just the plastic window in front of the LCD screen that is cracked?

It is in fact the LCD screen, not the plastic window.

We cannot send or recommend replacements for these screens. If you are having problems, the flash (or CC) will need to come in for repair.
