I went to use my Cyber commander on a recent job and when powered up the digital display had digital lines going everywhere. Parts of the screen you could read the normal screen but most of the screen had these digital lines going crazy all over them. The cyber commander lives in a pelican case so no abuse, I have not upgraded the firmware recently, or ever. I pulled out the micro sd card and put it back in. I replaced the batteries with brand new Energizers.

Any help with resolving this would be extremely appreciated.

thanks, Jeff

If the screen has crazy characters, then you can open a saved set up, and restore it that way. If you do not have a saved set up, we can send you one.

If there are "blobs" of color (or no color) or lines that go across the screen that is not a graphic, then the screen is likely broken, and would need to be replaced.

If you need repair, you can visit this page for specifics on how the repair process works: http://www.paulcbuff.com/repair.php

Ouch! that sounds expensive, wonder why the internals just broke? In any case I am packaging it up to send in for repair, should I call first or just send it in with the printed out Repair Form?

Let me ask, 99% of my photography with the strobes happens when I'm tethered to a laptop, is there ever going to be a way to control & sync the Einsteins from the computer?

Thanks again for your help.

Jeff

It would be $40-$75, and if sent in, repair would be assumed authorized as it is under the $85 mark.

I rarely say never, but it is unlikely. Being a closed system, there is much less development and support requirements, and therefore less expensive, and at this point quite easy to troubleshoot. Making a PC and Mac system would require two additional programs, plus new hardware, plus updates to correlate with the new system updates.

You can control the lights via the Cyber Commander from the computer's location, if you have a transmitter in the hot shoe of the camera.

thanks for the insights. I was thinking more for the graphical interface it might allow. But Yes I can understand the PItA it must be trying to keep up with all these OS updates. Actually you are very right, it is much better to keep this system as far away from that madness as possible. Last thing I would want is to find out the strobes weren't firing because I clicked on a software update.

I Fed-Ex'd the unit yesterday so you should receive it tomorrow. There is no rush as I imagine you guys are off next week for the holiday and I can use the backup pocket wizards in December.

thanks again for your help.

We are open Monday through Wednesday of next week, and closed Thursday and Friday. So there will be some delay, but not as bad as if we were a full week behind.
