I took delivery of my ABR800 yesterday. I set up, tested it, worked fine.

Today I tried shooting vertically, while holding it has been well documented, my issue was the flash not firing correctly.

From what I can tell If I rotate the camera anti clockwise one of the flash tubes doesn't fire or if that's figment of my imagination the images are very dark compared to the same exposure in a landscape format.

If I rotate the camera clock wise (very uncomfortable.) The exposure is correct.

Is this a common issue, am I missing something very simple?

I almost always shoot vertical for my work, is there a workaround I can employ if this issue isn't solvable?

Many thanks

Nate.

p.s

my setup is a d800 w/o the battery pack and a nikon 28-70 2.8

Are you rotating the flash and camera, or just the camera? How are you triggering the flash?
If you take a sample photo in a mirror at a low exposure, you should be able to see the tubes.
Are you certain the camera settings are not inadvertently changing?

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, I'm rotating both, I'll give the mirror idea a shot.

the flash is being triggered using the bundled sync.

I'm certain the camera settings are not changing.

I've found a temporary work around, it does involve changing the flash setting if I'm using it Vertically and upping the power about a stop and a half.

Will let u know how the mirror test goes.

Thanks again.

Nate
