I would like to get a boom arm to use with my LS3900 light stand, Einstein E640 strobe, and 64" PLM umbrella.

The web site lists an EC32 Cam Bracked "for use with our retired LB1 and LB11 booms".

If these booms are retired, what can I get to work with this light stand?

Thanks.

There are plenty of options at places like B&H and amazon. Whatever type you get, be sure to get one that clamps to the shaft of the light stand, and not the top stud.

Also, one with a heavy counter weight, or one you can add your own weight to (sandbags) would be best, as the leverage of the light and modifier can be pretty high.

A search of B&H for "boom arm" returns 562 hits.

I think this one meets the criteria you set forth:

I can see the stud peeking out above the boom, so it appears to be mounted into the shaft itself. Is the 3 kg (6.6 pounds) counterweight enough?

What about this one, with a 10-pound counterweight:

Thanks!

Either of those would work, and are similar (almost identical) to our two retired boom arms. The thing I like most about the second boom is it has an integrated drop down pin option.

With the first option, when the boom is mounted horizontally, the rotational force applied by a modifier would twist the light around the round post due to gravity.

With the second boom, you can place the stud perpendicular to the ground. The rotational force on the light would be in its tilt mechanism instead of the stud/mounting block connection.

The less weight you have on the counterweight, the closer the light needs to be to the light stand, all else being equal.

I bought this one and it arrived yesterday. Seems like it will work well and has similar racheting mechanism as the x800 lights and clamps to the PCBuff stands.
