I've decided to buy the 22HOBD-W beauty dish.

I read somewhere that the rear flat surface of the Buff BD limits its range of motion when mounted on a standard light stand. I want to be able to tilt the dish to at least a 45 degree angle.

Will I be able to accomplish this?

It depends on the light. Alien Bees are restricted to a slightly down angle, while WhiteLightning, Einstein And Zeus have a range of motion that should be about 45 degrees.

You can use a boom arm, or similar extension to allow more downward rotation with Alien Bees.

I have the AB800. Does Buff sell something I can use? If not, can you recommend?

We no longer carry a boom arm, and our mini boom arm will have the same problem.

We do not have a specific recommendation, but Westcott boom arms tend to be popular, as do Avenger. If you use them with our stands, make sure to use a boom that clamps to the column and not to the top stud.

B&H carries them starting about $75-$100 and up.
