Hi there,

I just bought an AlienBee B800 flash unit, and already possess a Vello remote shutter release/flash trigger, but it's not working with my B800. As far as I can tell I'm doing everything properly, using the right cables and proper combination of channels, etc, but the light won't fire (except when I press the test button). Is it simply not possible to use a non-affiliated trigger with these lights?

Any advice or insight would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Amanda

I have not heard of any brand not working with our lights. However, there are certain cords that may not work, even if they fit.

First, make sure the cord is a mono cord. This is identified by looking at the black bands on the metal plug. If there is one, the cord is mono. If there are two, it is stereo, and will not work with some remotes.

Also, some 3.5 to 3.5 mono cords will be attenuating cords. These are designed to filter out random signals for audio use. As far as they are concerned, the signal from the remote is a random signal. So if you get the cord from Radio Shack, make sure it is not attenuating. If you get one from a photo supply company, it should be fine.

Also, check that the included 15' sync cord fires the light when plugging in to the sync jack with the light on. This will verify the sync jack is functioning properly.
