Post subject:  Cyber Commander question

I recently purchased two Alien Bees B1600's, a Cyber Commander and two Cyber Sync units. With the Cyber Commander mounted on the camera's hot shoe, I press the camera's shutter release and both strobes fire. Good, this is what I usually want to happen.

But I just encountered a situation in which I want just one of the strobes fire (say the strobe on Ch 01) even though both strobes are turned on and communicating with the Cyber Commander. It seems logical that by selecting Ch 01 on the Cyber Commander, (rather than ALL) I could get just the strobe on Ch 01 to fire. However both strobes fire. I could turn the strobe on Ch 02 off, but there must be a better way.

Is there a better way?

The reason all strobes still fire from the hotshoe is so you can make changes to a given light without going back to all every time.

What I recommend doing is to assign light 1 to Group8 (GRP8) and light 2 to GRP7.

Page 48 and 49 will have the specific instructions on how to set this up. http://www.paulcbuff.com/manuals/cc.pdf

One a light is excluded from a group, it will not fire when the CC is set to that group. I suggest GRP7 and 8, as they are immediately adjacent to the ALL setting.
