This seems to happen periodically and I don't understand why.

On location and the LCD power segments on the cyber are not in sync with the actual settings on the einstein. I was shooting at ISO 1000 on location and trying to get the power setting down to allow me to get F4.5. I knew I would need to have the flash at 10ws or less but the cybercommander zero'd out and wouldn't go any lower in power. I went around to the back of the flash and saw that there was still a 5th of the power range left so I manually adjusted the power settings of the einsten until I got the exposure I wanted.

This has happened to me a number of times and sometimes it's at the upper end of the range and sometimes the bottom.

Why do they get out of sync???

Did you have the correct channel selected on the CC?

yes, if i didn't have the correct channel it wouldn't be changing the power or triggering the light at all!

are you adjusting only one light?

Or do you have an Einstein defined as an Alien Bee or White Lightning?

I'm adjusting only one light in this case and the cyber was initialized from a load studio command so unless it initialized incorrectly due to a firmware bug it should be defined as an einstein in the CC.

I've found many times that the cyber gets out of sync with the actual einstein and thinks that it's either at the top or bottom of the range. I'm running the latest firmware on the CC but the firmware on the einstein's is 2 years old if that makes any diff.

Age should not make a difference. However, I would double check to ensure the light is defined as an Einstein (lower right corner of the screen in blue). This would correlate to bottoming out on the CC, but still having ~1/5 of the range left on the light. Also double check the Ws ratings on both the light and the CC.

Does the light otherwise respond correctly to CC commands?

What is the range you are working within?

I will double check that it shows einstein but under what circumstances would open studio return an incorrect model?

And otherwise, I am able to change other einstein-specific parameters such as action/color so I don't see that as being the issue.

And I'm working within 5-10 feet from the light.

The only light that can auto specify is Einstein, so an AB could not auto specify. However, this does not preclude the fact that it is specified incorrectly.

it was indeed *not* set to einstein. What would make open from studio configure it incorrectly???

ok, i see what happened. When you sent my CC back after being repaired, you never installed the SD card so i was unable to save to SD and I must not have done a save after the initial open from studio.

Can you send me an SD card?
