Post subject:  Brand New Vagabond Mini Poor Battery Life

I just purchased a new Vagabond Mini and received it about a week and a half ago. I fully charged it and only used it 1 time with a single Einstein set at 5.6 for power. I only captured 60 images before the battery was completely dead. Does anyone else have experience with this? Is it a defective battery or are my expectations of how many images I should get skewed?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, setting the Einstein "at 5.6 for power" could be anything from full to minimum power, depending on distance, modifier, ambient light and ISO used. If you are using the blue bar matching the 5.6 graph line on the CC for reference, that is a little different, and would equate to about 50Ws, or about 1/8 to 1/16 power.

Nevertheless, even at full power, the VML should allow for about 400-500 shots on one new and fully charged battery. However, the most common mistake with new VML's is the use of model lamps. The constant draw of the model lamp will drain the battery much more rapidly than the use of the flash. If the model lamp is used above the 120W level, then the inverter can also be overworked, overheat and shut down, even if the battery is still charged.

While I cannot rule out a fault, I would first suggest recharging the battery, ensuring the model lamp is off, and testing again.

I will verify all of the above and test it again. I used the 86" plm. I will be back with an update.

Thank you.
