My charger seams to of stopped working (funny melted part of the plastic is the other sign) .
I live in New Zealand and it will take a while to get a replacement sent out so can I charge it from a Vagabond Mini from its USB port ?

Simple answer = no. The USB port is a USB 5V output jack, not a charging jack. Sorry

Even if you could charge a VML or copy cat from USB it would take forever to charge . . . USB doesn't provide enough power to charge a battery this large.

I need to get this unit up and running for now . At the moment I am looking at buying a 12v to 16v laptop charger and running the unit (minus the Vagabond battery) off my cars battery until I can import a genuine charger . Can you see any issues with that ?

Without knowing all the details, it would seem a 14.8V laptop charger, with 16V maximum output should charge the VML battery. Be sure it's rated to charge a 14.8V Lithium battery.

The charger itself, without the battery, probably won't have sufficient energy to run the VML without the battery - use it to charge the battery like the factory charger.

I am looking at using a car cigarette lighter outlet as the power supply to the Vagabond unit .

The one im looking at is a step up power supply from 12 volt to 16 volt , 8.5 amp and up to 150 watts which would have too higher output and would fry the Vagabonds battery (which needs a trickle charge) so it would have to be removed from the unit .

VML inverter draws about 20A from the battery during recycle at 16V. It's possible 8.5A may recycle it, but slowly if at all
