I own a Vagabond, and have had it for a long time. The tiny fan on the bottom seems to be running too slow. Does that screw on the bottom adjust its speed?

For clarification, you are talking about the Vagabond II (in the orange bag), right?

On some iterations, there may be a potentiometer that would adjust voltage going to the fan, but it should not be messed with. Most, however, will not have this, and there is not a means to adjust the fan.

Doh! You are correct.
And yes, there is a pot connected to the fan unit that you can reach through a tiny porthole. The fan on my unit has always been troublesome. (I could hear it scraping against the grill) But it has also been slow.

On a completely unrelated note; I just read about Paul yesterday, and I'm sorry for your loss. As someone who is both a photographer and electronics hobbyist, I admired the elegance of design that is put into Alien Bees. Most people in the photography world will never know how much he contributed to our work... because it was invisible, lying inside of a square box.
But I just wanted to say that I get why his designs were so unique. What Bob Carver did for audio, Paul did for strobe photography; replacing brute power and pretty packages with smart design and compact workhorses.... that still came in cool colors.
Thank you, Mr. Buff.
