I'm hoping you can help me out...

I have an Ultra Zap 2400 and 1600 that have been sitting in a case in my garage for a few years. I remember reading somewhere online a year or so ago something about after a flash has been unused for a long period of time, that you should not just fire it up and start popping off flashes right away.

The article said to set it at a low setting and pop off a bunch of flashes..... the reason had something to do with the gasses in the flash tube.... or that they need to be re-coated... (with what, I don't know) I cant remember exactly the reason.

Does this make any sense to you, or am I sounding like a crazy person? Is there anything that should be done to used flashes that have been sitting on the shelf for a long time?

I'm selling the units to a friend and I want to make sure that they're in the best shape possible.

Thanks.

You would be reforming the capacitors.

Yes, you would want to turn the lights on at minimum power, and let them sit and fire them some over a period of time. Ideally, the total time would be about an hour per year of non-use.
