i was curious as to if running the cst in the hot shoe to fire my other lights with csr's is possible with another light plugged into the sync port. i'm ordering a ringflash and curious if i can save on another csr for the time being and just run the ring off my sync port at the same time.

also my light stand is rated for 22 lbs. and i'm wondering if the giant softbox with a white lightning ultra 1800 will be too much weight for it?

Using a CST in the hotshoe and running a sync cord from ABR800 to the camera's PC terminal should work. I have not heard of any camera where it did not (I have heard where people could not get it to work on thier specimen of a particular camera, but the speculation is refuted by far more people that did get it to work).
However, the ABR does have an optical trigger, which may be used to fire when the others fire.

Pretty sure there are one or two combinations on my 5DII that prevent the PC socket from firing... I forget exactly, but I think when there's an ETTL flash working in certain auto modes, then the PC socket is disabled. But in manual mode or with CST's in the hotshoe, it always seems to work, and I often use both the hotshoe and the PC socket with no problems. Try it out with everything set to manual first, to avoid unnecessary hair-pulling.

ahh, thanks to both of you. sounds like it should work. i can't remember the last time i even used ttl flash. saves me 70 bucks for now.

any idea if the softbox/ultra 1800 combo is too much weight for a stand rated at 22 lbs. though?

sorry. Yes, that should be fine. That combo should come in under 8 lbs.
