When I tried to use my CC with a vagabond2 and any of my X lights (x1600, x3200) I got no pop (or sporadic pop) but mostly a beep from the x1600. As soon as I unplugged the CC phone cord from the light, everything worked correctly with the vagabond2 and the lights (and cyber syncs).

The other issue was when I used the AB lights like the AB800 and the vagabond2 with the CC, it constantly fired the light over and over again. As soon as I unplugged the CC phone cable from the AB light, the constant pop stopped and the light worked fine with a Cyber Sync and the vagabond2.

All lights worked fine with the CC as long as they were plugged into wall power.

What might be causing this issue?

Thanks,

-Darrin

It sounds like a mod is required for that inverter. This mod will be free, including shipping back to you. If this is the only issue you see from the VII, you can send only the inverter in, after the battery is fully charged. Be sure to prevent the battery cables from touching when connected to the battery. The best course of action would be to remove the cables from the battery, and send them in with the inverter (not necessary), or disconnect them from the battery and set them aside.

So this is a known issue with the CC (cable) and some (or older) vagabond II units? If so, I'll call support and setup a return. Don't want to send it in without further testing if further testing is needed.

We have seen this before. I checked your specific account info, and that vintage inverter will sometimes need this mod. You are welcome to contact customer serice anytime, however it is not necessary. Box it up, and send it to the Tennessee address at this link: http://www.alienbees.com/contact.html#repair. There is also a repair form linked on that page as well. Fill that out, or at least give us the same info, and include that in the box. No RMA is ever required.

Excellent. Thank you much. I am looking into getting a second unit or the new mini so hopefully I won't be vintage anymore. ;)

please take that as vintage as in "era", not as in "old". ;)
